The British PM Boris Johnson submitted Britain’s new Brexit proposal to Brussels and said that it would be a final proposal and no additions would be made to it. The EU’s officials said that they were unconvinced with the proposal. However, they also said that the proposal contained many positive points as well as negative ones.
The date for the Brexit is 31 October 2019 and the analysts argue that is this proposal a basis for the negotiations? Because Britain would exit the Union on October 31st whether they come to a deal or not.
However, the focus in the negotiations in Northern Ireland, whose security is being threatened due to a no-deal Brexit. Northern Ireland shares it’s border with the EU member Ireland and the contention is on the trade occurring through these borders. British authorities have said that it would keep similar EU standard trading regulations for Northern Ireland, which, according to analysts is a positive sign. The EU officials say that they have no clue regarding how the British officials would manage the customs in Northern Ireland. They said that maybe the British, through the use of technology might be able to come up with a solution for this issue.
A no-deal Brexit greatly threatens the Good Friday Peace Deal, which has prevented violence in the region for decades, the deal allowed the fences to be removed all along the border and allowed for free trade between Northern Ireland and mainland Ireland. If the customs are imposed in the region and the border area is again fenced due to Brexit, then this might give rise to a new wave of violence in the region.
