The China Power Hub Generation Company (CPHGC), a joint venture of the Hub Power Company Ltd. (HUBCO) and China Power International Holding, successfully got the commercial operations date (COD) for its 1320 MW imported coal power plant, the government confirmed the commercial operation of the power plant on August 17, 2019. The project is part of the CPEC project and was completed as per the schedule and in the given budget.
The Central Power Purchasing Company (CPPA) called for issuing the COD from August 17, 2019 and project’s engineer, the ‘SGS’ also gave the go-ahead, after completing extensive testing of the plant. Upon fulfillment of the given conditions of the government by the CPHGC, the CPPA called upon the National Power Control Center (NPCC) to issue dispatch instruction to the CPHGC, as per the power requirements of the country.
The project consists of two separate units, each having a capacity of 660 MW and were synchronized with the National Grid on December 28, 2018 and May 28, 2019, respectively, while the integrated coal jetty became functional in December 2018.
The plant will add 9 billion kWh of electricity in the system and would supply uninterrupted electricity to 4 million households throughout the country.
CEO of HUBCO Mr. Khalid Mansoor said that “The successful completion of the CPHGC project has fortified the dream of energy independence of Pakistan. Since the synchronization earlier in May, we conducted extensive testing of the systems to make sure we deliver quality while keeping HSE (Health and Safety Executive) as our top priority. I am glad that this Pak-China Synergy has resulted in engineering excellence and has fulfilled our promise of providing Pakistan with affordable and ample energy.”
