In a statement released by FBR, Shabbar Zaidi has said that strict action will be taken against anyone who is indulged in illegal business practices such as, under-invoicing, misdeclaration, and smuggling.
He said that traders should take steps to avoid any discrepancies relating to invoicing and declarations of assets and should refrain from indulging in any sort of smuggling activity.
Zaidi said that “Any importers, their clearing agents, and their staff found involved in such activities shall be liable to strict action under the law.”
He added that smuggling is a huge issue for Pakistan and the country faces massive losses in revenue each year, due to smuggling. This activity does not only negatively affect the existing economy but also affects future investments.
The PM has instructed the concerned departments to take strict action against people indulged in this activity and has asked the authorities to rote out this problem entirely.
Zaidi further added that the customs department has stepped up its efforts to counter smuggling and has started operations in coordination with other authorities and anyone who is found to be involved in illegal trading practices will be brought to justice.
