The Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi was on a three-day visit to England from 9th to 11th of July, 2019. He was representing Pakistan in the 19th Annual Commonwealth meeting. He also attended a ceremony arranged by the Pakistani community named, ‘United Pashtun Society’ and talked to international media on investment opportunities and improved security situation of Pakistan as well.
While addressing the Common Wealth Foreign Affairs Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan has greatly improved it’s law and order situation and was continuously gaining ground against the terrorists. He added that Pakistan has been working on it’s ‘National Action Plan’ to defeat terrorism and has seen immense improvement on the security front. He also told the ministers about the recent merger of FATA in KPK and said that the tribal regions have now been brought in the mainstream. The improved security situation was also noticed by the overseas chamber of commerce and industry (OCCI) members and they also commended the improvement on law and order situation, in their annual report.
Furthermore, while talking to the international media Qureshi said that British investors should invest in Pakistan in CPEC’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ). He added that CPEC is a massive project that connects Pakistan to China, one of the biggest markets in the world. Hence, providing immense opportunities for investments in almost all types of industries. He added that Pakistan is a growing country with massive human resource potential and Britain should consider importing skilled and non-skilled workforce from Pakistan.
Qureshi also said that Pakistan is waiting desperately for Prince William and Princess Kate’s visit to Pakistan.
He said that Pakistan has been engaged in business and economic diplomacy as Pakistan’s collaboration with China has paved the way for new opportunities. He said that “Pakistan is pursuing policies favorable for investments and businesses as it is an emerging market with a population of almost 220 million.”
While addressing the ceremony arranged by the United Pashtun Society, Qureshi commended the role of overseas Pakistanis in the development of Pakistan and highlighted the fact that Pakistan has received over $21 billion in foreign remittances, which is the highest in the country’s history. He added that Pakistan is taking many steps to facilitate it’s overseas compatriots.
Qureshi also met with Canadian Foreign Minister Christina Alexandra and said that both the countries shared a healthy relationship that is mutually beneficial. According to PTV, Christina also invited Qureshi for a visit to Canada.
