Reforms And Elimination Of Corruption In State’s Departments A Top Priority: PM

In a meeting of top government officials, Chairman FBR Shabbar Zaidi said that the PM has said that reforms and elimination of corruption in departments of State is the top priority of the government. He added that increasing confidence of the people in the government’s institutions would lead to more cooperation between the people and the departments. He further added that the PM said that increased trust of the people on FBR would result in an expansion of the tax net.

Commenting on the performance of FBR, Shabbar Zaidi highlighted many steps taken by the institution. He said that the revenue collection has reached Rs579 billion, which is almost 14% greater than the collections in the previous year. He also commented on the increased number of tax filers and said that 7,83,000 new tax filers were added in the current tax net and the total number of return filers reached almost 2.5 million, which is the highest in the country’s history.

He said that the taxation system is being simplified through induction of technology and apps like ‘FASTER’ and ‘Tax Aasaan’, have made it easier for the public to file their taxes and returns.

Commenting on the FBR’s initiatives to facilitate exports he added that electronic scanners have been installed at custom stations and custom officials are present at the Torkham border round the clock. Commenting on facilities at the airport he said that ‘Currency Declare System’ and the “Advance Passengers Information System’, are being provided at the airport to facilitate the people and authorities.
